The MCKK Board of Governors was established in 1917. As the apex governance body for The Malay College Kuala Kangsar, the Board oversees the school's long term educational and financial needs. Operating under the royal patronage of the Conference of Rulers, it bridges the school, the Ministry of Education, parents, alumni, and all stakeholders to ensure the sustainability and heritage of the institution.
The Board, in its current form, derives its authority from the Instrument of Government for The Malay College Kuala Kangsar, in accordance with the provisions of Sections 53 to 63 of the Education Act 1996, and is formally recognised by the Ministry of Education. Under the Instrument of Government, the Board of Governors of the school is empowered to administer and develop MCKK in accordance with the provisions of the Education Act 1996.
The Sultan of Perak, His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Al-Maghfur-Lah is the Royal Patron of the MCKK Board of Governors. The MCKK Board of Governors is constituted by a Chairman who is appointed by the Minister of Education with the approval of the Conference of Rulers, six members nominated by the Conference of Rulers on advice of the appointed Chairman, two members nominated by the President of the Malay College Old Boys Association (MCOBA), two members nominated by the President of the Parent-Teachers Association (PIBG) of The Malay College Kuala Kangsar and two members nominated by the Minister of Education.

Established in 2008 under the auspices of the MCKK Board of Governors, and registered with the Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (Companies Commission of Malaysia) as a company limited by guarantee, the MCKK Foundation serves as the official legal and fundraising arm of MCKK. The Foundation is mandated to raise, manage, and invest funds to support the sustainable development of the school.
Its efforts benefit students, teachers, staff, and the wider MCKK community, while safeguarding MCKK's distinguished heritage. Guided by a Board of Trustees, the Foundation focuses on educational advancement, leadership and character development, heritage and infrastructure preservation, and robust alumni and community engagement, ensuring MCKK's continued excellence and enduring legacy.
